Washington, D.C. – President Obama issued an executive order today for United States’ flag to be flown at half staff for the next thirty days to both mourn the loss and respect the memory of actor Corey Haim, who passed away this past Wednesday.

Though Haim was Canadian born, Obama told reporters during his morning press conference that the late actor was the embodiment of the American Dream, “This was a young man who was able to overcome the fact that he was born in Canada and become one of the most sought after young talents in Hollywood. Plus, he taught Americans that if you work hard to achieve your dreams, fame and fortune, you deserve to put most of it up your nose.”

Obama also told reporters that Haim’s passing was having a profound personal affect on him, “I began classes at Harvard Law School in the fall of 1988 and the transition was really tough for me. I didn’t have any friends and all the other kids made fun of me. I was really down, and I gave serious thought to dropping out and moving back to Chicago. But then I went to the movie theater and saw a little film called ‘License to Drive’, which changed my life. It was such a feel-good film and Haim’s performance was so powerful that it completely lifted my spirits. Quite honestly, I don’t know if I’d be occupying the oval office today if it hadn’t been for that film.”

After waiting for the profoundness of his statement to sink in, Obama flashed a nostalgic smile and said, “To this day, I still call Michelle ‘My Mercedes Lane’.”

Haim, passed away from what appears to be an accidental overdose on prescription meds. He collapsed in front of his mother, who called 911. Unfortunately, help arrived too late to save him and he was pronounced dead at 2:15 AM at Burbank, CA hospital.

Obama also set aside $10 million in public funds to create a task force to help Haim’s long time friend and co-star Corey Feldman through this trying time saying, “We’ve already lost one Corey and we need to do everything we can to make sure Feldman doesn’t go down the same path.”

Feldman, who appeared alongside Haim in “License to Drive” and other hugely successful films like “Dream a Little Dream”, “Dream a Little Dream 2”, “Blown Away” [not the one with Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones], “Busted”, and “National Lampoon’s Last Resort”, is rumored to be taking the news very hard.
