Larely,  CA – The Select Comfort mattress company announced today that they will soon begin selling their widely successful Sleep Number beds in a racecar model.

The bed, which will retail for around $5000 for a king size mattress, foundation, and frame, will be available as a Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari Testarossa, Lotus Elise, and Chevy Caprice Classic.

The decision is being hailed by industry experts as an extremely innovative one. The market took notice as well, as Select Comfort’s stock shot through the roof (NASDAQ: SCSS), increasing nearly 25% in the first 90 minutes of trading following the announcement.

Bill McLaughlin, the company’s President and CEO said, “A new day has dawned in the mattress industry. In days past, a consumer was forced to choose between getting a good night’s sleep and sleeping in a stylish, yet classy racecar. Now I’m proud to say, that with Select Comfort’s new Sleep Number racecar bed, consumers can now have their cake and eat it too.”

Dr. Michael Twery, who works for the National Center on Sleep Disorders, a branch of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, also welcomed the announcement saying, “Our research has shown without question that there are both physiological and psychological benefits of sleeping in a racecar bed. These benefits range from a decrease in symptoms of sleep disorders to increased energy and self esteem. With Select Comfort releasing this new product, the quality of life will increase for thousands of people around the country.”

Select Comfort also added the video testimonial of Adam Engel to their website. In the video, Engel says, “When I was younger I had a racecar bed that was my best friend. However, once I outgrew it, my parents sold it in a garage sale. Ever since then I’ve had difficulty sleeping. This inability to sleep has cost me jobs, relationships, as well as severely weakened my immune system. At the advice of my therapist, I tried to find an adult sized racecar bed, but there just weren’t any out there. Then I heard about the new Sleep Number racecar bed from Select Comfort. The beds are scheduled to go on sale early next week.
