dsrl-atEast Hanover, NJ – Looking to create some publicity and inject a little more flair into its new Double Stuf Racing League, Oreo announced today that they have signed Lyle and Erik Menendez to a lucrative long term deal.

The brothers, who were sentenced to life in prison for the 1989 murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty, are expected to battle brothers Peyton and Eli Manning and sisters Venus and Serena Williams for the league’s prestigious title.

Oreo, which is part of Nabisco, a subsidiary of Kraft Foods, knows that signing convicted murderers to take part in their league could generate some negative PR for the company. However, Kraft CEO Irene Rosenfeld saw the issue differently, saying, “If there’s anything Americans love it’s a heart warming comeback story. I mean, just look at how well Mickey Rourke has done on the award circuit for his work in ‘The Wrestler’. I think that’s what we’ve got here with the Menendez brothers; two young men that have fallen upon hard times looking to make a comeback.

Though many specifics of the deal were not disclosed, it’s been reported that the first order of business will be to move Lyle from Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, CA to Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga, CA, where Erik is currently being held. The move will enable the brothers to begin an intense training regimen before they begin official competition in the Double Stuf Racing League. Pleasant Valley State Prison will also serve as the home field for the brothers, who will not be allowed to travel to away games during this first season.

The Double Stuf Racing League has been slowly gaining in popularity with the participation of the Mannings and Williamses, and though the sport is only in its first official season, according to Nabisco its roots extend back to the early 1980’s. It was then that a twenty-two year old Bradley Bridger introduced the “alley-oop” Oreo dunk, which is still very popular today. The late 1980’s were also a great time for the formation of the sport, as it was then that Sally Carlson licked and dunked her way to a lick title, which was a precursor to the league as it stands today. She is also credited with being the first ambassador of the sport as one time after a victory, she celebrated by performing a celebratory “robot” dance.
