Larely, CA – A group calling themselves “One-Hit Wonders for Equality” filed a discrimination law suit against Larely radio station KLRY today alleging that the station’s “Two for Tuesday” format discriminates against them because they only have one song fit for radio.

The group, which was formed by Lou Bega (“Mambo No. 5”), and also consists of music groups Right Said Fred (“I’m Too Sexy”), Dexys Midnight Runners (“Come On Eileen”), The New Radicals (“You Get What You Give”), and The Baha Men (“Who Let the Dogs Out?”), say that because the station’s “Two for Tuesday” format requires two songs by an artist be played back-to-back, it unfairly discriminates against bands that don’t have two songs that are radio worthy.

“It’s absolutely discrimination.” Griped Bega, who shot to fame with the hit song “Mambo No. 5” in 1999, “Two for Tuesday” lasts all day, and makes up just over 14% of the week’s total air time. To make that time entirely unavailable to not just myself, but for other hard working musicians out there, is not right. Plus, I fathered a lot of kids that year I was touring, and I need the exposure to scrounge up every last dime that I can. I’m not like those fucking Baha Men who can scrape by on royalties from sporting events.”

Tod Rockett, the afternoon drive time DJ at the station disagrees and instead blames the musicians for not possessing the fortitude to create another hit song, “Even Tone Loc followed up ‘Wild Thing’ with ‘Funky Cold Medina’. That’s living proof that if you can write one hit song, it shouldn’t be too difficult to pull at least one more out of your ass. Seriously, how hard can it be? And if these guys are so hard up for cash, all they need to do is listen to my show and be caller #10 with the phrase that pays, and they’ll get $1,000 in cold, hard cash from KLRY.”

Rockett’s comments did nothing but fan the flames of this heated battle, as after hearing them, Gregg Alexander of The New Radicals challenged the employees of KLRY to a fight, saying “Program Directors takin’ money, morning show that’s never funny, washed up DJ tallkin’ traffic, come around I’ll kick your ass in!”

Radio stations all over the country are expected to follow the proceedings of the lawsuit very carefully, as the popularity of “Two for Tuesday” formats around the country has ballooned to staggering proportions and a judgment for the plaintiffs would make it open season for similar lawsuits.
