Irondale, AL – In a move intended to draw more people over to its network, EWTN [Eternal World Television Network] announced today that they have tabbed former Los Angeles Laker A.C. Green to host a new show that will devote one hour a night to NBA coverage.

The show, which is named “Hardwood Be Thy Name” is part of an effort by EWTN to shift away from entirely religious programming in order to draw more viewers. The show will air nightly in the time slot between “G.K. Chesterton: The Apostle of Common Sense” and “Mother Angelica Live Classics” and will feature highlights from games, interviews with players and coaches, as well as focus on the night lives of players when they’re on the road.

Green, who was an excellent basketball player who had a career average of 9.6 PPG and 7.4 RPG, also holds the NBA record for most consecutive games played. He played in 1,192 straight games from 1986-2000. However, as good a basketball player as he was, his on court performance was often overshadowed by the fact he was deeply religious person who claimed that he began and ended his NBA career as a virgin. It is this aspect of his career that made him an attractive hire to EWTN.

In a statement given by EWTN, CEO Deacon Bill Steltemeier explained that, “Branching out into sports is an idea we’ve had for a while, but we haven’t been able to find the right talent to host the show. We need someone with high moral standards. Someone who won’t embarrass our network by getting arrested for solicitation in the middle of the night or get popped for DUI on his way home from the strip club. We know this would never happen to A.C. Green, so therefore, he’s our guy.”

EWTN hopes that the show will also feature a great rapport between Green and co-hosts Shawn Kemp, Latrell Sprewell, and Isiah “JR” Rider. Steltemeier added, “It is also our hope that the show will feature intelligent discourse about both basketball and how it can positively impact a person on their spiritual journey through life. We truly believe that our panel’s insights as both ex-players and as fine upstanding Christians will give our network a leg up on the competition.”

“Hardwood Be Thy Name” will premiere next week.

  1. Nice mention of the G.K. Chesterton show. Following a juggernaut like that, you just know that “Hardwood Be Thy Name” is going to be a hit. For an added ratings boost, maybe Dale could make a cameo appearance every so often…
